LUCY DELNEVO, ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF PRIMARY SERVICES:
I am proud to be appointed as associate director of primary services at Learning Tutor Limited. I am excited about primary services and look forward to working with you and your children in the near future. I studied Primary Education at Middlesex University and have 7+ years of teaching and senior management experience. I have developed my role as both a teacher and a senior leader in all the schools that I have worked in. I have specialisms in the following areas; numeracy, ICT, phonics, reading, mentoring of student teachers and am also a SENDCo. Throughout my career I have tutored children from both Key Stages with Literacy, Numeracy and Phonics including 11+. I have vast experience in supporting both parents and pupils with the transition from Foundation Stage to KS1 as well as from KS1 to KS2. These periods are crucial times for your children in terms of their development and self esteem. Every child has the potential to achieve whatever they aspire to in their lives. We as educators and parents have a duty to allow children and young people achieve their full potential by supporting them and giving them the skills that they need to thrive and flourish. Phonics is a crucial part of a child’s educational development. They will begin phonics from the moment they start school in the Foundation Stage and will continue their learning across Key Stage 1. Towards the end of Year 1, the children will take part in the national ‘Phonics Screening Check’ which will test their phonic knowledge. The pass rate for this test is very high and in order to pass they must first know all of the sounds from phases 1-5 of the government's Letters and Sounds scheme. Many children struggle to learn all of these sounds and will need an extra ‘boost’. That’s where learningtutor.co.uk can help! We offer phonics sessions for parents and pupils. CHILDREN'S PHONICS TRAINING
We offer phonics tutoring for children in both Key Stages 1 and 2. Children will be assessed for 45minutes to 1 hour initially (this is chargeable) to find out where they are on their ‘phonics journey’. Learners will receive tailored phonics tutoring sessions which will include learning new sounds, reading and writing them. PARENT'S PHONICS TRAINING
It is important that parents are equipped with the correct knowledge to be able to help their children with phonics, not only for the Phonics Screening Check but in order to help them with their reading and writing. We are offering a course for parents to learn how to pronounce the letter sounds as well as understand terms such as ‘digraph’ and ‘trigraph’ so that you can help your child when they mention them. LIFT THE LID ON LEARNING...
Fleas are incredible jumpers. In fact, a flea can jump over 150 times its own size. If a man had the same strength, he could jump over 900 feet high. For some perspective, the Statue of Liberty is 305 feet high from base to the top of the torch. In addition, a flea can jump 30,000 times without taking a break. Imagine if we had that kind of strength and stamina. We could accomplish anything. But if a FLEA TRAINER puts a flea in a jar with a lid on it, the flea will, of course, begin to jump, but after a while, the flea, tired of banging his head against the lid, will lower his jump. Once they become accustomed to the fact that they cannot escape, you can remove the lid and the flea will only jump as high as where the lid was. He will never escape the jar because his mind has been reprogrammed to only jump so high. The flea limits itself because of conditioning and experiencing the school of hard knocks. Life is somewhat like this story. If we put a lid on our children’s education, they will never achieve their full potential. Our job is to remove the lid and open up a whole world of opportunities.
